No, you can't, not really. Most embroidery thread is not strong enough to hold seams together. You want general purpose sewing thread, at the very least. Don't get the cheapest kind, either. The cheapest thread is made with short fibers (called short staple), which will fuzz up and cause a lot of lint in your machine. Get the better (but more expensive) thread. It will save you money in the long run, because you won't have to have your machine serviced so often. Even if you use the best thread, though, you will have to take your machine into the shop now and then, and get it serviced.
