Shrug Knitting
![]() Do you have to always block your knitting? I'm new to knitting and I'm half way through a Shrug using 53% wool & 47% acrylic blend. Why do you have to block your knitting? and is there ever a reason you don't need to? Personally I never block, I prefer the look of unblocked items, but that's just me. First things first: blocking prevents the knitting from curling in on itself. Especially if you're knitting in stockinette stitch, ie- 1 row knit, 1 row purl and so on. Because of the unique nature of this stitch it will curl up at the cast on and cast off edges, and also at the sides. It's annoying if you want it to sit flat. The only times when you would not block is when you've got cables or a rib pattern that you want to "pop". Because I don't really like blocking I work my patterns a little differently if I know I'll have to block. I work either a garter stitch border, knit every stitch every row, for the first few rows of a project and the few edge stitches and the last few rows of a project. It does take more concentration and will change the way the piece looks. Another way is to work ribbing into the beginning and ends of the project. Knit 2 stitchs then Purl 2 stitches across the row is the most common rib pattern, but you can use any. Of course ribbing acts like elastic and that's why it's commonly used on projects like sweaters and gloves. With your shrug you may be able to get away with not blocking. Finish the project first then try it on. If you like the way it feels and the way it sits then it's fine. If you don't like the curling or you can see yourself getting annoyed with it, then by all means block it. The decision about blocking ultimately comes down to you. In fact any decisions about your project are all up to you. Knit how you want to and you'll get more enjoyment out of it. I hope this helps and good luck! |

Color white, just like black is a classic. White is a neutral color and clothing accessories in white team up well with casual, formal and party attires. A plain white shirt, a white skirt, white hair band, white handbag, all of these look really nice and elegant. Women in classic white exude vibes of a composed and dignified lady. On the other hand a white kurti and white footwear with a blue jeans on a lazy Sunday gives a feel of a relaxed and chilled out attitude. Formal wears need nothing more than a plain white shirt with a nice pair of trousers. Lets explore some more easy ideas and accessories about how to manage the five essential classic whites in every wardrobes.
Shirt
A classic white shirt is a multi purpose wardrobe element that can be used for almost all types of occasions. Formal wear with a white shirt needs no ideas. Team it with any kind of a bottom, trousers, skirts or with jeans for a semi formal look. For a casual day, choose a loose fitting white shirt or a kurti. A kurti can be of any length, short, knee length or mid length. For a casual outing, match it with cotton, denim or woolen shrugs as per the season.
Skirt
A flared, knee length, white skirt is a must have for women who love wearing them. A little bit of embroidery or sequin work is a good idea, but avoid too much of it. Match it with colorful tops, tees, spaghetti tops and ganjis for a girl next door look.
Pearls
When you are dressing up white, accessories of any color would look good. But if it is out and out a formal affair or a wedding or any other formal party, nothing better than pearls. Diamonds are good too, but pearls and very elegant and complement to the classic feel of white.
Wraps
Wraps again like a white shirt are multipurpose. A chiffon stole around the neck, a scarf wrap around the shoulder, a shoulder shawl with a sari or a knitted poncho style over jeans for winters. Shawls and scarfs can be in numerous fabric styles. Choose a few of them with a mix of white and other colors.
Footwear With A Touch Of White
Plain white or a mix of colored straps or patterns that include white. Both these styles go with all kinds of clothes, formal, casual, semi casual, party, all of them.
You may have any of the above or not but you must have a beautiful pearl set to go with any of your outfits be it for work or for an evening party.
