Top 3 Magazines that Need to Discontinue Publication
You can bet your poker chip sets that even though the magazines below might be successful now, with the ever-changing magazine industry they could be bankrupt in a year or less. Look out for changes in the industry to rattle some of these popular, but horrible, magazines...
Rolling Stone
How is this magazine even relevant anymore. Even on a bi-weekly publication schedule, they are usually a week or more behind in the latest music and movie news. The only reason to read it anymore is for film critic Peter Travers, who is a level-headed, honest and breath of fresh air amidst so many stuffy or unintelligent movie critics. Rolling Stone has been trying really hard to keep up with all the music and arts blogs on the internet by beefing up their magazines with even more political and economic coverage that shows just how stuck in the 70s they still are. You won’t find a more codgy magazine that tries so hard to be hip.
Maxim
A ridiculously successful “lads-mag” as they call them in the UK, or men’s magazine here in the United States, Maxim draws in readers with scintillating photo shoots with popular actresses and models on the cover and fills its pages with mysogonistic and often downright stupid articles more suited to bathroom reading than public consumption. Maxim is an international success, with expanded markets in countries as far out as Indonesia, Romania, Korea and Russia (where it is exceedingly popular). Maxim has been the subject of several high profile controversies largely due to their insensitivity and misogynistic undertones. It’s a pretty bad magazine.
O, The Oprah Magazine
The cult of Oprah reached new heights when the talk show queen started her own monthly magazine in early 2000. If you need any evidence to show how obsessed Oprah is with herself, note that Oprah’s image has been used exclusively on the cover of every issue since April 2009, when she shared the cover with Michelle Obama. The Oprah Magazine is more of the worthless self-help fluff that she peddles on her show only in magazine form.
